Lay Me Down

Suzanne Mondoux · 10 November 2020

In time when you say you love me It will soon be over Whose great fame a world could not ignore The clash between words and sticks and stones Lay me down where you see fit I struggle no more in your made up world Our quarrels told by mobs Read the legacy of a heroine Remarkable she was Lay me down where you see fit I cross the portal of ashes and angles Some days with you were glorious, others too grim to shed tears Search deep into my soul and find me here Lay me down here My song has come to a pause Split my shadow for you to step on The other half to skip over Lay me down in between Born at the right time, or too soon for such a world It seems timing was the gift to my fame Lay me down where I began Where I’m released deep into my soul No longer a made up character of this world
